The Road to Manila Cup 2017 Starts this July

Fighting game hype continues to grow this 2017

For two years now, Manila Cup has provided a yearly dose of high octane hype for the local fighting game community. This year, there will be a total of nine games in the event's lineup, the highlight of which will be Street Fighter V. Manila Cup will still be part of the Capcom Pro tour as a Ranking Event. Players who compete here have a chance of earning ranking points to be tallied on the global leaderboards. The top 30 players will be invited to the main event at Capcom Cup 2017 to be held at a later date this year. Other games included are Tekken 7, Blazblue Central Fiction, Mortal Kombat XL, King of Fighter XIV, Injustice 2, Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3, Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and Guilty Gear Xrd Rev 2.

Last year, several international players made their way out to the Philippines to compete. Notable names included Evil Geniuses’ Kenneth “K-Brad” Bradley, Evolution 2016 top 8 finisher Hiroyuki “Eita” Nagata, last year’s Manila Cup Street Fighter V and Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 Champion, Echo Fox’s Justin Wong and many more.

To provide more opportunities for local players to participate, the organizers have put up Road to Manila Cup: a tournament circuit leading up to the main event itself scheduled on September 8 - 10. Each of the 8 games will be represented with their own tournaments throughout the series. Like Revelations back in June 17, sponsored players from big teams will be barred from entering the tournaments. Champions for each tournament are guaranteed free entrance for the corresponding game that they won. Depending on the number of participants for the tournament, the same prize will be extended to the other top placing players, starting from second, then third and so on.

The tournament series will begin this Saturday, July 1, 2017. Games that will be highlighted include Blazblue Central Fiction and Mortal Kombat XL. Both tournaments will be held over at Playbook Circuit Makati.
