New year, new Rampage, new gauntlet. The 2017 Pro Gaming Series Summer Playoffs kicked off today with two of the most prominent professional League of Legends teams in the country. Mineski League of Legends take on the sons of the southern isles Acclaim EmpireX.
The two teams met during the last year's Summer Semifinals where AEX beat out Mineski for the Rampage 2016 slot, eventually leading to an impressive championship win for the Visayas-based squad. Both teams however had vastly different rosters in the previous year, meaning things might not end up the same way now. Mineski have certainly found their groove with their new roster by winning the 2017 PGS Spring Playoffs. AEX on the other hand have been struggling in the 2017 PGS season, but were able to finish 4th in the Summer split to secure their playoffs slot.
It's AEX and MSKI in the best-of-five Quarterfinals series to determine which team will move on to face Imperium Pro Team in the Semifinals. Who will take the next step towards Rampage and a chance at representing the Philippines in the 2017 Summer Garena Premier League?
AEX kicked off the series with a commanding game 1 win over the defending PGS Split champions. Mineski not to be outdone, bounced back with a monstrous 16-6 20 minute 2nd game to bring balance to the best-of-five series. Mineski would continue to dominate the 3rd game to take the series into match point. Despite an unfortunate technical issue that plagued the 4th game of the series, the remade game did nothing to stifle the momentum Mineski built throughout the series.
Mineski League of Legends claim the Quarterfinals series with a resounding 3-1 score to eliminate Acclaim EmpireX from the PGS Playoffs running. Tomorrow Mineski will have to take to the Rift again as they face off against their long time rivals Imperium Pro Team.
