Three Mineski Infinity branches in three cities. Three champions. One big Gigabyte™ Mineski Pro Gaming League (GMPGL) tournament in Visayas and Mindanao in one day. Despite the cold and rainy weather in the Visayas and Mindanao area, intense clashes, hot match-ups, and loud battle cries made the temperature rise in Cagayan De Oro, Dipolog, and Cebu as the top DotA players in the said regions fought their way to claim the title of being called champions in their respective places. The GMPGL in Visayas and Mindanao ended with a bang. Here is a quick recap of what happened at GMPGL 4-1 in Visayas and Mindanao area last February 19.

 

TEAM CUBE, THE PROCLAIMED TITANS OF CEBU

A total of 48 teams registered for the GMPGL 4-1 that was held at Mineski Infinity Cebu. After a single elimination format for each bracket, 6 teams stood among the others and proved their worth for the chance of claiming the title. The 8 teams composing of team Kage, Cube, Latos, Henyo, Chumen, and SCH, were then grouped into three to determine the two teams that shall battle it all out for the championship match. Cube and SCH were undefeated in their group stage matches that resulted to best of three finals showdown between the two. SCH drew first blood that put them closer to the title. But Cube didn’t let their guard down and beat SCH on the second game, which resulted to a 3rd do-or-die battle between the two. Eventually Cube got the higher advantage during the third game that resulted to a win and their claim for the title.

TEAM SENDONG, BACK-TO-BACK CHAMPIONS OF MI CDO

 

When the 32 teams that participated at the GMPGL in CDO faced a single elimination format in each of their brackets, 8 teams eventually conquered all odds and claimed a spot at the top 8. The said teams were team Admiral, Pop, FTD, Introboys, Etent, CrownSway, Ahhh, and Sendong, the previous MIOT (Mineski Infinity Open Tournament) champions. Team CrownSway was the team that dominated the loser's bracket finals and grabbed a spot at the finals match, after being sent by Introboys during their match-up at the winner's bracket. And the team that CrownSway faced at the finals was team Sendong, a team that conquered the winner's bracket division during the tournament. During the finals game, team Sendong didn't waste any of their momentum and defeated CrownSway during their match.

TEAM NOTY, CROWNED AS DIPOLOG'S ELITE

 

18 Teams attended the Dipolog division of GMPGL and went through a single elimination format for a chance to be included at the top 8. The teams that got the top 8 spots were team Db's, Iyayo, BoyCute.Inc., Noty, Plantz, Krazy, Rak, and Creons. A double elimination format was made in order to determine 2 teams worthy of a chance for the championship title. Team Noty, the team who stood out at the winner's bracket, gained a twice to beat advantage and faced team Db's that went through a difficult stage in the loser's bracket because they were sent to the said bracket early by team Keons. Eventually team Db's fell short against team Noty during the 2nd match during the finals, which resulted to the stoppage of their winning streak, and the claim of Noty to the championship title. Both teams showed that they are worthy of facing each other at the finals because of their determination to be at the top, and their will to win among the others.

Congratulations to all the teams that participated during the GMPGL in Dipolog, Cebu, and Cagayan De Oro, that made it to the top 8 spot in their respective area, especially to the champions team Cube(Cebu), Sendong(CDO), and Noty(Dipolog). This shows, that teams outside Metro Manila are also deserving and IMBA when it comes to competitive team gaming.
