It was quite a four-day event in Kiev, Ukraine with the Intel Extreme Masters rolling by. Tournaments for Counter-Strike 1.6, League of Legends, and StarCraft II took place with tens of thousands of dollars at stake. While things started off in a less-than-stellar note, the event went on smoothly and came to conclusion with great games played and viewers.
In StarCraft II, things didn't hit off quite as expected with reports of lag and other technical issues marring an otherwise successful tournament. For instance, some controversy was sparked when NaNiwa decided to forfeit his group due to massive amounts of lag, which made the games unplayable for him. It was not the typical lag that was seen in the other machines, as reported by caster RotterdaM. NaNiwa was then convinced to play the rest of his matches, which he was able to win in order to lead in his group. Another similar incident in another group came up with NightEnD and Zenio having to replay their group match after a lag-filled affair in their first game.
All groups had seen both famous and underrated players competed with some surprising results. Kas took his group as one of the two only undefeated players in the group stage, actually dropping one game less than MMA. While some have come up against stiff challenges, players like Feast has been able to impress with solid performances.
The quarterfinals saw a Protoss player in each match, all of which lost to their opponents. In the finals, it was SlayerS_MMA against mTwDIMAGA for all the bones. In the end, MMA took down his Ukrainian Zerg opponent 3-1 in a well-played best of five series. In the third place match, national champion Empire.Kas defeated Liquid`Zenio with a hard-fought 3-2.
